David Roberts, MD

Senior Consultant

David Roberts, MD, is a Leadership and Performance Coach, physician leader, and former healthcare executive who has guided physician leaders and executive teams in community hospitals for more than 25 years. He specializes in physician leadership development, enterprise leadership coaching, and empathetic leadership training, bringing a unique perspective shaped by his dual experience as both a practicing physician and healthcare President.

David began his healthcare leadership journey as Chief of Cardiology and Chairman of Medicine at North Shore Medical Center within the community division of Partners Healthcare. Throughout his career, he maintained active clinical practice while advancing through executive positions.

Prior to joining NuBrick Partners, he served as Senior Vice President of the community division at Mass General Brigham (formerly known as Partners), where he helped enterprise leadership strategize growth in the community setting, including expansion into surrounding states. Previously, he served as President of Salem Hospital, a member of Mass General Brigham, where he led the organization through significant challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting his team seven days a week at the hospital.

David excels at developing physician leaders who can navigate the complex intersection of clinical excellence and organizational leadership. His areas of expertise include physician leadership development, enterprise leadership coaching, and team/cohort development, with a focus on “what’s in it for the team.” He brings strength to succession planning, executive transition coaching, and strategic advisory work with physician leaders. One of his key talents has been advocating for community hospitals and providers within an academic medical center-centric system through mutually beneficial deep relationships.

He is respected for his empathetic approach to leadership development, which was profoundly shaped by his own experience as a patient following a serious cycling accident more than a decade ago. This experience led him to embrace and teach empathy as a learned skill to residents, staff physicians, and healthcare leaders. Clients value David's unique ability to connect with leaders through an authentic understanding of both the clinical and operational challenges they face. Throughout his career, David also enjoyed teaching medical students, residents, and fellows.

David earned his Leadership and Performance Coach Certification through the ACT Leadership Program at Brown University. He completed his Internal Medicine training in San Francisco and Cardiology fellowship in Boston.
